BNDES and Petrobras begin a joint effort to support culture
BNDES' Vice-President, Armando Mariante, welcomed Petrobras' Corporate Communication Executive Manager, Wilson Santarosa, and the President of Theatro Municipal, Carla Camurati, this past Monday, March 17th, for a work meeting which sets off joint efforts by the Bank and Petrobras to provide support to culture.
Mariante and Wilson Santarosa, together with theater's President and its technical team, the necessary investments in order to repair Theatro Municipal, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary on July 14th, 2009. The total budget for the restoration of Rio de Janeiro's outstanding cultural heritage landmark is approximately R$ 50 million.
BNDES was the first institution to support the restoration - with R$ 4 million - with the purpose of remediating the theater's emergency roofing problems, which could imperil the building's utilization and its very structure. The meeting on Monday discussed ways to give Theatro Municipal continuing support and the possibility of other sources of investment, so that revitalization may become effective and permit the appropriate celebration of the Theatro Municipal's centennial in 2009.
