BNDES seminar will discuss women's status in economic development
BNDES, in partnership with the Presidency's Special Office of Policies for Women [SPM], will hold next Wednesday, April 2, the seminar "Women's Work, Entrepreneurship and Autonomy". The event will be opened at 10:00 a.m. by the President of BNDES, Luciano Coutinho, and the Minister of SPM, Nilcéa Freire, and will also be attended by the Director of BNDES's Social Inclusion and Credit Area, Elvio Gaspar, and the State Secretary for Social Assistance and Human Rights, Benedita da Silva.
After the opening, Minister Nilcéa Freire will present to the public the 2nd National Plan of Policies for Women, launched last March 5 by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The plan includes 392 actions in 11 areas of performance. One of the chapters deals with Work Economic Autonomy and Equality with Social Inclusion.
The seminar's purpose is to discuss, from the strategic viewpoint of gender equality, the development of public policies aimed at strengthening women's entrepreneurial activities. This discussion should reinforce one of guidelines of the National Plan of Policies for Women, from the perspective of the relationship between female autonomy and economic and social development. To most women in the work force, equality of opportunities is still an objective to be attained, no matter how many advances have been made in that direction.
Also present as a lecturer will be Solange Sanches, National Coordinator for the ILO - International Labor Organization's Mercosul Program for Entrepreneurship and Equal Gender, Race and Ethnic Opportunities.
Luciano Coutinho will sign a commitment term, already assumed by the Bank, to continue to implement equality in the institution's personnel policy.
