» BNDES approves R$ 60 million to agricultural cooperatives

· New productive units will be implemented in the States of Minas Gerais and Paraná
· The two undertakings will generate 476 direct jobs

The board of Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social [BNDES] approved two financings in the total amount of R$ 60 million, in the ambit of the Cooperative Development Program for the Addition of Value to Farming Production [PRODECOOP]. Cooperativa Central dos Trabalhadores Rurais de Minas Gerais Ltda [Itambé], will receive a credit of R$ 40 million, and Cooperativa Agroindustrial Consolata [Copacol], of the State of Paraná, R$ 20 million. 

Itambé - With the funds, Itambé will implement a milk powder plant in Uberlândia (State of Minas Gerais), with capacity to process 1 million liters of milk and produce 122 tons of milk powder per day. The operation, in addition to allow strengthening the social inclusion policies in effect under the cooperative system, will provide for a cost reduction, an improvement to the members' income, and the creation of 150 direct jobs. The plant start-up, with 50% capacity, is expected for the end of current year.

Itambé was incorporated in 1948 and gathers today about 6 thousand producers under 31 affiliate cooperatives and counts on over 2,400 employees distributed among its plants, distribution centers and main office. Under Itambé's brand, the cooperative ranks second milk picking company in the country, with 800 million liters per year, the leader in domestic capital, and accounts for 50% of Brazilian exports of dairy products.

Copacol - Copacol will invest the BNDES financing in the implementation of a suckling pig producing plant in Jesuítas (State of Paraná), with capacity to shelter 1,375 matrix and 16 reproducers for the production of 33 thousand suckling pigs per year; expanding the slaughter of fowls from 280 thousand to 300 thousand per day, with impact in Cafelândia (State of Paraná) slaughterhouse; and increase from 322 thousand to 341 thousand tons in storage capacity, with investments in metallic silos warehouses in Jesuítas, Nova Aurora, Santa Cruz, Palmitópolis, Iracema and Cafelândia (State of Paraná). With the implementation of the project, 326 direct jobs will be created at the cooperative.
