Economic-financial indicators
BNDES presented a net income of R$ 7.3 billion in 2007, a historical record of 15.5% over the R$ 6.3 billion in 2006. These figures result from a set of positive factors, with a highlight to the variable income portfolio excellent performance (mainly due to the result from equity sales, dividend income and equity income), which went from R$ 3.5 billion to R$ 6.1 billion in 2007; from the reversal in the allowance for doubtful accounts, of R$ 1.4 billion (R$ 1.1 billion in 2006); and the gross income from financial intermediation, in the amount of R$ 4.8 billion (R$ 4.9 billion in 2006).
Administrative and tax expenses amounted to R$ 1.4 billion, and income tax and social contribution expenses amounted to R$ 2.7 billion. The income from the reversal in the allowance for doubtful accounts was mainly due to the process of revising the risk classification of states and municipalities, in addition to the recovery of receivables in a total of R$ 1 billion in the year. Due to such facts, this account, which is usually an expense (average of R$ 1.2 billion in the 2002/2006 period) to reduce net income, presented, extraordinarily, a positive balance.
With respect to the variable income portfolio performance, 2007 highlights went to the result from equity sales, in the amount of R$ 3.7 billion, and the income from dividends and interests on own capital, of R$ 1.4 billion. Thanks to the combination of this series of positive factors, BNDES comes into a new level in its cycle of supporting the strengthening of Brazilian enterprises.
