Financial support: R$2.01 million
|
In this 18th century building sheltered the head office of local police up to mid 1885, when it then housed the Santa Casa de Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy) of Ouro Preto, the first hospital of the state. More than 1,200 meters have been refurbished. Some beams, door posts and Russian heart-of-pine doors that came to Brazil in ship holds at the time of Empire, will be reused. The construction work reveals the history the stately house carries. By cleaning the land, an old, 1,5 meter high gallery, swallowed by the woods, was found. The structure is a treasure made in stonework (soapstone work).
By the end of the restoration, the property will serve as an exhibition center for several works made in Ouro Preto, such as soapstone sculptures.
