Recife (PE)
Fundação de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Pernambuco’s Federal University Development Support Foundation - FADE)
Financial support: R$ 1.12 million
|
Built during the 18th century by Irmandade dos Sargentos e Soldados da Guarnição de Recife (Religious Order of Sargents and Soldiers of Recife), the Nossa Senhora da Conceição dos Militares Church has a simple front. Inside it, however, the church keeps some valuables such as the image of Our Lady of Conception on the main altar, white and golden rococo style sculptures in the central arch, and roof paintings portraying Virgin Mary pregnant and the first Guararapes battle.
Considered by the Brazilian baroque researcher, Germaine Bazin, “the Cistine chapel” of Brazilian rococo. IPHAN restored the structured and all sculptures, fully impaired due to termites; BNDES contributed with the artistic restoration, so the church could be admired and studied in its original magnificence. Besides the Golden Chapel of Franciscana Church (San Francisco Church), Conceição dos Militares Church is the most beautiful religious monument of Recife. |

42 - Treasures of the National Library - Permanent Exhibit
Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
Miguel de Cervantes Foundation in support of
Research and Reading at the National Library
Support amount: R$ 500 thousand
|
The
National Library holds a well-stocked collection
of bibliographies and documents on Latin America;
with over 9 million pieces, this collection makes
it one of the ten largest libraries in the world.
The National Library is responsible for keeping
and preserving the Brazilian bibliographic
production, besides making this heritage available
to the public to conduct research; the exhibitions
are also a means of democratizing public access to
the cultural heritage of Brazil.
The restoration project is sponsored by the
Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), and aims at
turning the area on the 4th floor of the
administrative building - the noble area of the
building that now houses the National Library
Foundation President's office - fit to exhibit and
democratize the Treasures from the National
Library thanks to a permanent exhibit.
As an integral part of the National Library
building, whose ecclectic style permeates
neoclassican and art nouveau elements, this noble
space is considered the most appropriate to house
the "National Library Treasures -Permanent
Exhibit" in view of its architectonic beauty
and monumental stained-glass skylight. |

43 - Emergency
Recovery Plan for the Museum of Fine Arts - MNBA
Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
Friends of the National Museum of Fine Arts
Association
Support amount: R$ 1 million
|
The
history of the National Museum of Fine Arts has
its origin with the arrival to Brazil of the Royal
Family and the French Artistic Mission of 1816.
Its initial collection rebuilds these historic
facts. It was initially established as the Gallery
of the Imperial Academy. For more than a century,
in the same format of the congenerous institutions
in Europe and the United States, the Museum and
academy formed a single institution.
Law no. 378, of January 13, 1937, granted autonomy
to the old Gallery, transforming it into the
National Museum of Fine Arts, which was
inaugurated as such on August 19, 1938. The
building, registered by the Iphan, was designed by
the Spanish architect Adolfo Morales de los Rios
and elaborated in the eclectic style, being
inaugurated in 1908, as the new main building of
the National School of Fine Arts and its Gallery,
today's National Museum of Fine Arts.
Its collection represents the most important
historic record of Brazilian art and a noteworthy
foreign collection, with approximately 15 thousand
artifacts - among Brazilian and foreign artists -
with highlights among the engravings, with works
from the precursor of this art form in Brazil,
Carlos Osvald, up to the most contemporary such as
Rubem Grilo. The 19th century Brazilian art
nucleus, with paintings, sculptures and drawings
is the country's most important. Italian baroque
works from the 17th century, that were unknown 15
years ago, are the only ones in Latin America and
are constantly lent out to exhibits in Europe.
The project's proposal is to promote the recovery
of the museological structure that comprises the
building, its functions and equipment in a way to
guarantee the preservation of the collection of
temporary exhibits and people's safety.
