BNDES financing conditions for investments in the concession of water and sewage services in Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro, March 31st, 2021 - BNDES, The Brazilian Development Bank, discloses its non-binding financing conditions for infrastructure investments in the concession of public services for water supply, sewage collection and treatment in the State of Rio de Janeiro, pursuant to Tender Notice – International Public Competition nº 01/2020.
The project includes the concession of water distribution, sewage collection and treatment and commercial management services for users in 35 municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, serving 12.8 million people, corresponding to 90% of the state population served by CEDAE (state-owned company). The estimated investment during the concession period is approximately R$30 billion (~US$ 5.3 billion).
The bidding process is being conducted by the State of Rio de Janeiro, with the technical support of BNDES. The auction is scheduled for April 30th and establishes a universalization goal for water supply and sewage collection/treatment by the 12th year of contract, which has a total term of 35 years. The deadline for proposal submissions is April 27th.
The financing conditions herein stated show that BNDES should participate in long-term debt structures along with other co-financiers in order to raise the amount needed for investments.
The sanitation sector is one of BNDES’ priorities. The Bank has set as one of its strategic goals to act on the structuring of projects that will grant access to treated water to 20 million Brazilians.
