Living Forest
Living Forest is an initiative by BNDES aimed at supporting ecological restoration projects with native species across all Brazilian biomes. Living Forest also works to strengthen the technical and management capacity of the restoration sector's production chain and to support agroforestry production systems associated with ecological restoration.
The initiative is funded with 50% of resources from the BNDES Social-Environmental Fund and 50% coming from Supporting Institutions
16 calls for proposals launched, totaling BRL 402.13 million in support for ecological and productive restoration projects across Brazil.
So far, 61 projects have been selected and contracted, totaling 9,036 hectares to be restored.
Additional resources* have been mobilized, in partnership with BNDES, from the following institutions:

* Amounts hired. The difference between the total amount hired and the total amount allocated to support projects is used to cover operational costs.
Living Forest works with Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio) as its Managing Partner, selected through a public call. Funbio is responsible for organizing the public calls for project selection, receiving funds from BNDES and Supporting Institutions (companies or governments), transferring them to selected the projects, and monitoring activities and results.

16th Project Selection – Parnaíba River Basin – Piauí
Supporting Company: Axia/Porto Piauí
Call Budget: BRL 70.5 million
Launched on April 15, 2026, the Living Forest Public Call – Parnaíba River Basin, of BRL 70.5 million, aims to select projects focused on implementing ecological restoration actions and revitalizing water resources in the Parnaíba River Basin.
In addition to restoration itself, the initiative seeks to strengthen the restoration value chain by training local stakeholders in the stages of seed and seedling production, planting, maintenance, and monitoring – thus expanding the scale, efficiency, and sustainability of the supported actions.
The deadline for proposal submission is June 29, 2026.

15th Project Selection – Águas do Paranaíba Call
Supporting Institution: Axia Energia (CPR FURNAS)
Call Budget: BRL 17.76 million
Launched on November 19, 2025, the Floresta Viva – Águas do Paranaíba Public Call aims to select projects for implementing ecological restoration actions and water resource revitalization, focusing on restoring inflows and strengthening the production chain in the watersheds influenced by the reservoirs of the Corumbá, Batalha, Serra do Facão, and Itumbiara Hydropower Plants.
The deadline for proposal submission was June 15, 2026.

14th Project Selection – Beberibe Aquifer Restoration and Recharge Call

Launched on November 19, 2025, the Floresta Viva – Beberibe Aquifer Restoration and Recharge Public Call aims to select projects to implement ecological restoration actions and strengthen production chains associated with restoration in the recharge area of the Beberibe Aquifer (Pernambuco).

9th Projects Selection – Connecting Landscapes II Call
Supporting Institution: Inovaland Ltd.
Call Budget: BRL 8.8 million (second window)
Launched on May 27, 2025, the Floresta Viva – Connecting Landscapes Public Call (second submission window) aims to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain to form ecological corridors within the Atlantic Forest biome.
The second window covers the same geographic area as the first, including 15 municipalities: Alcobaça, Caravelas, Mucuri, Nova Viçosa, Porto Seguro, Prado, Teixeira de Freitas, Vereda, and Itamaraju (Bahia), and Conceição da Barra, Jaguaré, Linhares, São Mateus, Pedro Canário, and Sooretama (Espírito Santo).
Two categories of projects will be supported: Small-scale projects, aimed at strengthening local organizations, with a minimum of 5 hectares, a duration of up to 12 months, and funding of up to BRL 200,000; Large-scale projects, with a minimum of 50 hectares, lasting between 24 and 48 months.
The submission deadline was August 29, 2025, and projects are currently under selection.

8th Projects Selection – Forests of Rio Call
Supporting Institutions: Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and Aegea
Call Budget: BRL 60 million
Launched on December 18, 2024, the Floresta Viva – Forests of Rio Public Call aims to support the implementation of ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain in Hydrographic Regions II, V, VI, and VIII of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The submission deadline was March 21, 2025, totaling BRL 39.5 million in support for selected projects.

7th Projects Selection – Caatinga Viva Call
Supporting Institution: Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB)
Call Budget: BRL 8.88 million
Launched on December 6, 2024, the Floresta Viva – Caatinga Viva Public Call aims to support projects implementing ecological restoration actions and strengthening the restoration production chain in Conservation Units within the Caatinga biome, their surrounding areas, and municipalities with arid climates, with a minimum area of 100 hectares each.
Priority areas include Conservation Units and their surroundings in the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe.
The submission deadline was February 21, 2025, and eleven projects were contracted, totaling BRL 23.2 million. To ensure support for all selected projects, the call budget was increased from BRL 8.88 million to BRL 23.2 million, with 50% contributed by BNB.

6th Projects Selection – Southeast Paraná Call

Launched on November 27, 2024, the Floresta Viva – Southeast Paraná Public Call aims to support ecological restoration projects, strengthen the restoration production chain, and create ecological corridors within the Atlantic Forest biome in the Southeast Paraná mesoregion.
The submission deadline was March 10, 2025, and two projects were contracted, totaling BRL 8.6 million.

5th Projects Selection - Connecting Landscapes Call

Launched on June 3, 2024, the Floresta Viva – Connecting Landscapes Public Call aims to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain to form ecological corridors within the Atlantic Forest biome.
The deadline for proposal submission was August 5, 2024, and seven projects were selected, totaling BRL 8.2 million.

4th Projects Selection - Biodiversity Corridors Call
Supporting Institution: Petrobras
Call Budget: BRL 42 million
Launched on December 9, 2023, the Floresta Viva – Biodiversity Corridors Public Call aims to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen production chains in biodiversity corridors for the conservation of the Cerrado and Pantanal biomes, covering the states of Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Minas Gerais.
The call seeks to benefit biodiversity corridors that connect remaining forest fragments of native vegetation, enabling animal movement and plant species dispersal through seed propagation.
The eligible area included projects located in biodiversity corridors in the Cerrado and in the Upper Paraguay River Basin, across the states of Bahia, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul. The deadline for proposals was April 1, 2024, and 12 projects were selected, totaling BRL 58.7 million.
BNDES and Petrobras made additional contributions, increasing the total funding to BRL 58.7 million.

3rd Projects Selection - Xingu River Basin Call
Supporting Companies: Energisa, Norte Energia, Vale Fund
Call Budget: BRL 26.6 million
Launched on September 5, 2023, the Floresta Viva – Xingu River Basin Public Call aims to support ecological restoration of degraded areas and strengthen production chains associated with restoration in the Xingu River Basin in the Amazon region. The call covered three main regions: Lower Xingu, Middle Xingu, and Upper Xingu, in the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.
The deadline for proposal submission was November 6, 2023, and four projects were selected, totaling BRL 20.3 million, as published on the Funbio website.
On September 5, 2025, the Xingu 2 call was launched to select projects in the same region using remaining funds from the original call.

2nd Projects Selection - Amazonas Call

Call Budget: BRL 8.88 million
Launched on July 5, 2023, the Floresta Viva – Amazonas Public Call is intended to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain within and/or surrounding Conservation Units in the state of Amazonas. The call covered the municipalities of Manaus, Presidente Figueiredo, Rio Preto da Eva, Silves, Itacoatiara, and Itapiranga.
The deadline for proposals was April 1, 2024, and two projects were selected and contracted.
BNDES and Eneva made additional contributions, increasing the total funding of the call to BRL 9.97 million.

1st Projects Selection - Mangroves of Brazil Call
Supporting Company: Petrobras
Call Budget: BRL 44.4 million
Launched on November 17, 2022, the Floresta Viva – Mangroves of Brazil Public Call aims to support projects for restoring native vegetation in mangrove and restinga areas—coastal ecosystems of great ecological, social, and economic importance, which are under significant pressure from urban expansion and other human activities.
The results were announced in November 2023, with eight projects selected and already contracted.
BNDES and Petrobras made an additional contribution, bringing the total funding for this call to BRL 47.3 million to expand support for the selected projects.
