Living Forest
Floresta Viva (Living Forest) is a BNDES initiative aimed at supporting ecological restoration projects using native species across all Brazilian biomes. Living Forest also works to strengthen the technical and management capacity of the restoration sector's production chain and to support agroforestry production systems associated with ecological restoration.
The initiative is funded through 50% resources from the BNDES Social and Environmental Fund and 50% resources from Supporting Institutions.
16 PUBLIC CALLS LAUNCHED TOTALING R$ 443 MILLION IN SUPPORT FOR ECOLOGICAL AND PRODUCTIVE RESTORATION PROJECTS ACROSS BRAZIL
To date, 84 projects have been selected and contracted, totaling 11,260.83 hectares to be restored.

*Contracted amounts. The difference between the total contracted amount and the total support provided to projects is allocated to operational expenses.
Living Forest counts on the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (Funbio) as its Managing Partner, selected through a Public Call process. Funbio is responsible for organizing public calls for the selection of ecological restoration projects, receiving funds from BNDES and Supporting Institutions (Companies or Governments) and transferring them to selected projects, as well as monitoring activities and results.

17th Project Selection – São Francisco Waters Call
Supporting Company: Axia Energia
Call Budget: R$ 10 million
Launched on October 1st, 2026, the Floresta Viva – São Francisco Waters Public Call aims to select projects focused on implementing ecological restoration actions and revitalizing water resources in the areas influenced by the reservoirs of the Sobradinho and Itaparica Hydroelectric Plants.
In addition to restoration, the call proposes strengthening the associated production chain, encouraging professional training across the various stages of the process.

16th Project Selection – Parnaíba River Basin (Piauí) Call for Proposals
Supporting Company: Axia / Porto Piauí
Call Budget: R$ 70.5 million
Launched on April 15, 2026, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Parnaíba River Basin aims to select projects focused on implementing ecological restoration actions and revitalizing water resources within the Parnaíba River Basin.
In addition to restoration itself, the initiative seeks to strengthen the restoration value chain by training local stakeholders in seed and seedling production, planting, maintenance, and monitoring activities, thereby increasing the scale, efficiency, and sustainability of the supported actions.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on June 29, 2026. The submitted proposals remain under evaluation.

15th Project Selection – Paranaíba Waters Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Axia Energia (CPR FURNAS)
Call Budget: R$ 17.76 million
Launched on November 19, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Paranaíba Waters aims to select projects for the implementation of ecological restoration actions and water resource revitalization, focusing on the recharge of tributary flows and the strengthening of the restoration production chain in the watersheds located within the area of influence of the reservoirs of the Corumbá, Batalha, Serra do Facão, and Itumbiara Hydroelectric Power Plants. The selected projects are in the hiring phase.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on March 13, 2026. Five proposals were selected and will receive approximately R$ 17.2 million.

14th Project Selection – Beberibe Waters Call for Proposals

Call Budget: R$ 8.88 million
Launched on November 19, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Beberibe Waters aims to select projects for the implementation of ecological restoration actions and the strengthening of production chains associated with restoration in the recharge area of the Beberibe Aquifer (Pernambuco).
The deadline for proposal submission closed on March 6, 2026. Three proposals were selected, requiring approximately R$ 9.9 million for implementation. Therefore, in order to ensure that all qualified proposals could be supported, BNDES and Heineken increased the budget of the Call. The selected projects are in the hiring phase.

13th Project Selection – Ecological Restoration in the Pantanal Call for Proposals

Launched on February 18, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Ecological Restoration in the Pantanal aims to select ecological restoration projects in the Pantanal Biome and its areas of influence.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on February 27, 2026. Two projects were selected and will receive R$ 5.19 million for implementation. The selected projects are in the hiring phase.

12th Project Selection – Indigenous Lands Call for Proposals
Supporting Institutions: Fundação Bunge and Agrícola Alvorada
Call Budget: R$ 8.88 million
Launched on October 10, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Indigenous Lands aims to select projects for the implementation of ecological restoration actions and the strengthening of the restoration production chain within Indigenous Lands.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on February 27, 2026. At the conclusion of the selection process, four proposals were chosen, requiring R$ 10.4 million for project implementation. Therefore, in order to ensure that all qualified proposals could be supported, BNDES, Fundação Bunge, and Agrícola Alvorada increased the budget of the Call. 11th Project Selection – Forests of Rio 2 Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SEAS-RJ)
Call Budget: R$ 60 million
Launched on October 6, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Forests of Rio 2 aims to select projects for the implementation of ecological restoration actions and the strengthening of the restoration production chain in Hydrographic Regions (HRs) I, IV, V, and IX of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on February 9, 2026. At the end of the process, six projects were selected and will receive approximately R$ 36.7 million. The selected projects are in the hiring phase.

10th Project Selection – Xingu River Basin 2 Call for Proposals

Launched on September 5, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Xingu 2 aims to select projects for the implementation of restoration actions and the strengthening of production chains associated with restoration within the Xingu River Basin.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on November 7, 2025, and three proposals were selected, which will receive approximately R$ 5.3 million.

9th Project Selection – Connecting Landscapes Call for Proposals (2nd Submission Window)
Supporting Institution: Inovaland Ltd.
Call Budget: R$ 8.8 million in the second submission window
Launched on May 27, 2025, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Connecting Landscapes (2nd submission window) is intended to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain for the establishment of ecological corridors in the Atlantic Forest biome.
The second submission window covers the same geographic area as the first, including 15 municipalities: Alcobaça, Caravelas, Mucuri, Nova Viçosa, Porto Seguro, Prado, Teixeira de Freitas, Vereda and Itamaraju in southern Bahia; and Conceição da Barra, Jaguaré, Linhares, São Mateus, Pedro Canário and Sooretama in northern Espírito Santo.
Two categories of projects are supported. The first category focuses on small-scale actions and the strengthening of small local organizations, requiring the restoration of at least 5 hectares, with a maximum duration of 12 months and financial support of up to R$ 200,000. The second category supports larger projects aimed at restoring areas of at least 50 hectares, with a minimum duration of 24 months and a maximum duration of 48 months.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on August 29, 2025, and eight projects were selected, receiving R$ 8.2 million in support.

8th Project Selection – Forests of Rio Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SEAS-RJ) and Aegea
Call Budget: R$ 60 million
Launched on December 18, 2024, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Forests of Rio is intended to support the implementation of ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain in Hydrographic Regions (HRs) II, V, VI, and VIII of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on March 21, 2025, resulting in R$ 39.5 million in support for the seven selected projects.

7th Project Selection – Caatinga Viva Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Banco do Nordeste do Brasil
Call Budget: R$ 8.88 million
Launched on December 6, 2024, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Caatinga Viva is intended to support projects aimed at implementing ecological restoration actions and strengthening the restoration production chain in Conservation Units within the Caatinga biome, their areas of influence, and municipalities with arid climates.
The priority areas covered by the call are located within and around Conservation Units (CUs) in the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on February 21, 2025, and eleven projects were contracted, totaling R$ 23.2 million. In order for all selected projects to be supported, an increase in the Call’s budget was approved, raising it from R$ 8.88 million to R$ 23.2 million.

6th Project Selection – Southeast Paraná Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Philip Morris Brasil
Call Budget: R$ 8.88 million
Launched on November 27, 2024, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Southeast Paraná is intended to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain, as well as the creation of ecological corridors within the Atlantic Forest biome in the Southeast Paraná mesoregion.
The area selected for the implementation of the Corridors was chosen based on the mapping of Strategic Areas for Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration (AECRs) in Paraná.
The deadline for proposal submission closed on March 10, 2025, and two projects were contracted, totaling R$ 8.6 million.

5th Project Selection – Connecting Landscapes Call for Proposals

Call Budget: R$ 8.4 million
Launched on June 3, 2024, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Connecting Landscapes was established to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain for the creation of ecological corridors in the Atlantic Forest biome.
The area covered by the call includes 15 municipalities distributed throughout southern Bahia and northern Espírito Santo: Alcobaça, Caravelas, Mucuri, Nova Viçosa, Porto Seguro, Prado, Teixeira de Freitas, Vereda and Itamaraju in Bahia; and Conceição da Barra, Jaguaré, Linhares, São Mateus, Pedro Canário and Sooretama in Espírito Santo.
The deadline for proposal submissions closed on August 5, 2024, and seven projects were selected with a total value of R$ 8.2 million.

4th Project Selection – Biodiversity Corridors Call for Proposals
Supporting Institution: Petrobras
Call Budget: R$ 42 million
Launched on December 9, 2023, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Biodiversity Corridors was designed to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain within biodiversity corridors aimed at conserving the Cerrado and Pantanal biomes, covering the states of Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Minas Gerais.
The call seeks to benefit biodiversity corridors that connect remnant forest fragments of native vegetation, facilitating wildlife movement and plant species dispersal through seed propagation.
The deadline for proposal submissions closed on April 1, 2024, and 12 projects were selected.
BNDES and Petrobras made an additional financial contribution that increased the budget of the call to R$ 58.7 million in order to expand support for ranked projects.

3rd Project Selection – Xingu River Basin Call for Proposals
Supporting Companies: Energisa, Norte Energia and Fundo Vale
Call Budget: R$ 26.6 million
Launched on September 5, 2023, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Xingu River Basin was designed to support ecological restoration projects in degraded areas and strengthen production chains associated with restoration efforts within the Xingu River Watershed in the Amazon region.
The geographic scope of the call included three primary regions: Lower Xingu, Middle Xingu, and Upper Xingu, in the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.
The proposal submission period closed on November 6, 2023, and four projects were selected, totaling R$ 20.3 million.
On September 5, 2025, the Xingu 2 Call for Proposals was launched to select projects in the same region using the remaining resources from this call.

2nd Project Selection – Amazonas Call for Proposals

Call Budget: R$ 8.88 million
Launched on July 5, 2023, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Amazonas was created to support ecological restoration projects and strengthen the restoration production chain within and/or around Conservation Units in the state of Amazonas.
The geographic scope of the call included the municipalities of Manaus, Presidente Figueiredo, Rio Preto da Eva, Silves, Itacoatiara, and Itapiranga.
The deadline for proposal submissions closed on April 1, 2024, and two projects were selected and duly contracted.
BNDES and Eneva made an additional contribution, increasing the budget of the call to R$ 9.97 million in order to support both selected projects.

1st Project Selection – Mangroves of Brazil Call for Proposals
Supporting Company: Petrobras
Call Budget: BRL 44.4 million
Launched on November 17, 2022, the Floresta Viva Public Call – Mangroves of Brazil was created to support projects aimed at recovering native vegetation in mangrove and restinga areas throughout the country, which are coastal ecosystems of great ecological, social, and economic importance and are under significant pressure from urban expansion and other human activities.
The results of the call were announced in November 2023, with eight projects selected and duly contracted.
BNDES and Petrobras made an additional financial contribution, bringing the total budget for this call to R$ 47.3 million in order to expand support to ranked projects.
